May Prayer Support for Women Newsletter

Uplifting News:
We have been praying for a gal struggling at work with an impossible workload and little compensation. Our Lord has lifted
the heavy weight by placing her in a new position with a light workload and more compensation & benefits. She said, "He
opened doors that I never would have imagined existed."
A woman was contemplating suicide. Through correspondance and prayers from our partners, she declined and God is refreshing
and comforting her.
~ Thank you, God, for Your faithfulness to provide and protect. _____________
WISHFUL PRAYER
By
Brenda Mayfield
As a child I prayed,
"Now I lay me down to sleep.
I pray the Lord my soul to keep.
If I should die before I wake,
I pray the Lord my soul to take.
Amen."
Did you pray this wishful prayer too?
I used to wish Heaven would be my destiny.
I also used to wonder what that "big guy in the sky" is doing. Is He busy or bored? I believe God laughs when we laugh
and cries when we cry. He is busy, . . .busy loving us and thinking of us always.
Now I watch as He paints sunsets to brighten the horizon with hope, blows towering pines to make them shimmer and dance,
and tickles a child for giggles that make me smile. When life is chaotic–if I listen closely–I can hear His symphony
above all the noise. God is not bored, for everyday He is creating something beautiful, composing something exuberant . .
. just for us.
As a child I would say, "Abracadabra" or wish upon a star. Sometimes that old wishing still wants to play a part in my
prayers, like rubbing the magic lamp for "genie Jesus" to pop out and grant my request. "Abracadabra" becomes "In Jesus name."
But the name of Jesus has abundantly more power than "abracadabra" and adheres to His will–not to my wishing. The secret
formula is surely the invisible, mysterious substance called faith (Hebrews 11:1).
Faith is not saying, "Well, whatever God. Your will be done. Que sera, sera. Whatever will be, will be." While those
words are numb, faith is an active word. We surrender our will but not our responsibility to act. Faith is not wishing.
And it is more than hoping. It is believing in Jesus and what He is willing and more than able to do. Faith assures
me He was willing and able to purchase an eternal home for me in Heaven.
Ephesians 3:20-21 is a powerful prayer:
"To You, Father God, who is able
to do immeasurably more than all I ask or imagine,
according to Your power that is at work within me.
To You be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus
throughout all generations, for ever and ever!
Amen."
I'll trade this prayer for my wishful childhood prayer. When I was a child I thought like a child, but now I put away
my childish wishful thinking (1Corinthians 13:11). God grants me more than my wishes–He gives me what I need.
Have you too wondered what God is doing? He works according to His good pleasure. And what is His good pleasure? To paint
the sky and compose music for you, to laugh with you, cry with you, and–most importantly–to lovingly think
of you always.
Have you ever received a "Thinking of You" e-card from a friend? Well if God sent you an e-mail every time He thought
of you, your computer would run out of hard drive for it could not contain all the messages even for one
day.
God's thoughts for us outnumber the grains of sand (Psalm 139:17-18).
We don't need to be wishing. . . We need to be believing and knowing how much our Father loves us and thinks of
us.
Blessings to you,
Brenda Mayfield
